Pattern update! It’s currently June 2, 2020 and this is the latest version of the Hearts Blanket Pattern. It will be a little different than the tutorial, in that the stitch counts are different. Why? I found a better, less confusing way to explain stitch counts than what I posted in the video. The pattern has not changed, so you will still make the same blanket you saw in the video tutorial.

The PDF pattern and chart have also been updated, and are now easier to read, include line by line instructions for the Heart Stripes, new and improved pattern notes, and highlighted repeat stitches. A copy of the chart is included with the PDF pattern.

I didn’t write a specific yarn yardage since that will depend on how large/small you want the blanket to be. I used 3 skeins of Super Saver Jumbo in beige, and some leftover Super Saver in Lavender ( I used a fraction of a skein). Each Super Saver Jumbo skein has 744 yds / 681 m.

Abbreviations

CH – Chain                   DC – Double Crochet                                SK – Skip                 SC – Single Crochet

Stitch descriptions for the abbreviations above, can be found in the PDF version of the pattern.

Initial chain: Each heart worked in multiples of 31: the heart is 26 stitches, and the space between each heart is 5 stitches. Add an additional 5 stitches at the end of the chain.

To calculate the number of chains you’ll need to start with:

Count the number of hearts you want on the bottom row of your blanket and multiply that by 31:

(let’s say I want 7 hearts, just to use actual numbers for this example)

7 * 31 = 217 chains

Add 5 more stitches so the left and right sides of your blanket match:

217 + 5 = 222 chains

Row 1: CH 3, beginning in the fourth stitch from your hook, DC into every stitch of the row.
Row 2: CH 3, turn your work around. Starting on the first stitch from your hook, DC in every stitch of the row

To stagger the hearts:

On the second repetition of the pattern, use your chart as a guide to shift the hearts. On Row 1 of the Hearts Row, begin with a CH 3, then DC 2. Then begin with the CH & SK stitches. All you are doing is shifting the bottom point of the heart 12 stitches to the left.
